ATMTA Inc., the developer of the sci-fi gaming metaverse Star Atlas, has laid off over 120 staff as part of a major restructuring. The company has reduced its workforce from 167 employees to 45, marking a significant drop from a peak of 235 staff in late 2022. In a statement, ATMTA said that the layoffs were necessary to "ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the company." The company cited financial difficulties and macro headwinds as the reasons for the layoffs. "While the team size is much smaller, we will be more agile and fully capable of delivering on our prioritized products and maintaining all other existing products," the statement said.
